Tourism Situation in Kish
Around 40 years ago, when a group of western experts came to the island to survey its tourism situation, they compared it with the best tourist islands in the world and predicted a bright future for it. Since then Kish Island has taken long and proud strides in order to realize the position that it deserves.
Due to its natural attractions, pleasant weather more than seven months a year, and several recreational and sports centers, today the island has turned into a favorite tourism destination in Iran and the region.
Geographical Situation
Kish Island, the second largest in the Persian Gulf, has a total area of 91 sq. km. Its distance to the nearest port in the mainland is 18 km, 90 km. to Bandar Lengeh, 300 km to Bandar Abbas, and 200 km to the United Arab Emirates.
Major Characteristics
Known as the pearl of the Persian Gulf, the Island has a moderate climate for 8 months of the year. Breathtaking coastal scenery, a unique aquarium, recreational and water sports facilities are among a number of attractions which has made Kish a proper place for the expansion of tourism.
Accessible Markets
From the commercial aspect, mainland and the countries around the Persian Gulf are the sphere of influence of Kish economy, and from the touristic aspect, it goes as far as the Central Asian Republics.
Communications Network
Kish international airport manages daily flights which connect the Island with 12 major cities in Iran and more than 10 destinations abroad. The Kish harbour designed with a depth of 4 m, can accommodate 2000 ton vessels.
Utilities and Services
The production rate of the water desalination facility is over 8000 cubic m daily. 90 megawatts of electricity is also available. Soon the Kish telephone network will be connected to an advanced 5000 extensions network, with 1000 mobile telephones.
Accommodation
The island has over 1000 accommodation spaces, comprising of 400 hotel rooms with different standard and 650 residences including villas and suites. Four residential estates have been allocated in the Comprehensive Plan of Kish.
